South Shields spray paint mural featuring the South Shields Lighthouse painted as a sandcastle. The mural aims to serve as a postcard for South Shields but if you look deeper it also contains symbolism for some issues regarding mental health. Underneath the sand lies a coal seem, whilst things may seem fine on the surface they can be darker underneath. The butterfly represents a change, for those who have learnt to overcome or live with mental health issues as well as a change for Shields. As it has metamorphosed from an industrial town to one known more for its beaches and restaurants.
Thanks to Alex at Hogarths, Amber Taverns for commissioning this mural.
